I used to see these questions all the time; here are the answers:
- Can I run IIS 5.0 and/or ASP 3.0 on NT4?
- IIS 5.0 is not available for Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows ME or Windows NT 4.0. If you need any of the new functionality in ASP 3.0, then you also need to upgrade to Windows 2000. IIS 5.0 cannot be downloaded... it is on the media CD for your OS, and can be installed by going to Add/Remove Programs, Add/Remove Windows Components. For more information, see Article #.
- Does Windows 2000 Professional ship with PWS or IIS?
- PWS does not exist in the world of Windows 2000. Pro, Server and Advanced Server all ship with IIS 5.0. There are still limitations such as 10 connections and one web site when you run IIS from Professional (as with PWS on NT 4.0 Workstation); however, much of the other functionality is the same.
- Where else can I learn about IIS 5 and ASP 3.0?
- Here are a couple of links to get you started:
